6. Never Been Cheated On

I went out with the same guy on and off all through highschool from 9th to 12th grade. It was beautifully wrapped up in the end by us going to the Senior Prom together and singing a song, “Don’t Fall In Love With A Dreamer” for class night together. We were both high school singers and it was just lovely for us to do that together.

Through out all of high school, though, this boyfriend did break up with me a lot. He always had a new girl he wanted to check out or go out with. He had to try all the witches when we were in Wizard of Oz together. Of course he had to try out the Swedish girl who was an exchange student. His best friend was the cute, sweet girl who was considered the catch of the school. After several of these breakups, my 7th and 8th grade hand-holding (back then it was not necessarily considered a good thing to be a slutty-ho at that age) boyfriend used to tell me, “you know Mary someday you may begin to like it”. He was trying to say I would begin to like to be broken up with. It was so repetitive. He made me laugh.

I have four younger siblings and one of the times my highschool boyfriend dropped me off crying, after breaking up with me again, they all hid in the bushes by our house and whipped rocks and sticks at his car. I thought this was a little harsh. I’ve always given him the respect he deserved, though, because to this day, I can claim I’ve never been cheated on.
