2. Dave does an ad in Rolling Stone

I thought it was really dumb when Dave decided to do the Microsoft ad in Rolling Stone. The reason to do it is to get a big spread in Rolling Stone. This sounds nice but what does getting a picture in Rolling Stone do for you? Before an ad like this, people who know your business know about you. After an ad like this, people who don’t know your business know your business.

Not for fame
Now people who don’t pay attention to recording or to the work Dave’s been doing have all come up and commented on seeing Dave in Rolling Stone. He pretty much feels like a jackass because he hasn’t entirely been doing this work for fame. He is in it for the money and somehow fame should lead to more of it. In my mind we have what is referred to as “plenty of money”.

Not in it for the money
Dave claims he’s in it for the money but he never bills people. He doesn’t mind spending money and he doesn’t need to spend money. He has never complained about needing anything no matter what our situation. And there was a time when I was the big money maker with my minimum wage jobs. My raises were always when minimum wage went up..Guess what? I got a raise. I think the most I ever made was $4.25 per hour. I have been off the job market for quite a while now but I never felt poor. I was young and didn’t have health insurance or a car but I did have my stereo and guitar. I rented near a supermarket and didn’t get sick.

I don’t hate Microsoft
So he didn’t do it for fame. Or money. And he hates Microsoft. I don’t so much. These days the only good tech support I get is from Microsoft. I run Windows on a Dell which is supposed to do the support for the operating system. Well, I do believe the Indians in India do read their scripts much better than most Americans would but they are given no more information than you can figure out for yourself so this is no good. Today my hard drive broke on my Mac. I haven’t lost everything yet but I may well soon. I paid for the 3 years of technical support. My computer and the support were all registered at the Apple Store. Guess what even though I shucked out the $250 for the support it didn’t show up on the system, neither did my Mac. The last I knew Microsoft gives 3 free calls on each of its products. Since Dell can’t support its products, I am willing to pay Microsoft tech support guys because every single time, I get an intelligent human who knows computers AND English. If only I could get the Microsoft fellows to get me some Mac tech support.

Dave does
But Dave hates Microsoft. He can’t stand using that operating system. Especially not after using his own pc he got for doing the ad.

Jealous
If only he didn’t hate Microsoft, I wouldn’t have thought it was so dumb. He didn’t get paid except for compliments paid to him by our local townies. I don’t think any bands respected him more for doing it. They mostly picked on him in a good humored tone. Was it jealousy?

Was he trying to make people jealous?
