42. Wayne out of the bubble. Wayne is putting his money where his mouth is. Stepping out of his protective bubble and joining the naked masses… The observer. Last night I thought well, he is above it all, in his bubble just observing the odd things people do. In my life that has how he has always been. His bandmates come over spend time having drinks and talking into the night. But Wayne seemed the observer to it all, not comprehending any of it. The taste of beer is not good for him. He always seemed to observe what everyone was doing and decide what to do next by what people seemed into, whether he was or not. Bad naked. When we heard the setting of this latest video (my kids and I), we mulled it over again and again.. Personally, I could imagine doing a lot of things naked but like the Seinfeld episode where opening the pickle jar naked was just not good, the naked bike riding clubs just do not compute. Also, naked has never been my choice of fashion but I accept that people enjoy it. Wayne has incorporated naked into his art, but basically female. And as the Seinfeld show established, female naked acceptable, male naked not really. But we had no idea of the dénouement to this story. It just didn’t seem possible. My littlest son decided he could like the people but not like the entity that the people were in. He was annoyed that the band would have naked people on stage with them. People were annoyed that he just had females if he really believed in this nakedness thing. He really had nowhere else to go. If he wasn’t a fake, he must move forward. The naked bike riding group takes nudity completely out of the realm of perversion and porn. It’s just bad naked. To tell you the truth, for me, clothed bike riding is embarrassing so naked bike riding is worse. It brings everyone to a place where noone is specifically better than anyone else. It’s rough. But artistically it is good. The parts of the video that I saw were beautiful in an artistic sense but I walked away and Dave narrated the rest as I personally don’t need to see people I know stripping down. The right thing? I do think it is the right thing perhaps with the society we are living in. I have been screaming about the new tv shows because all they talk about is porn, pervert, sex. And as far as I knew, nudity had its place and sex doesn’t have to be perverted. My kids don’t need a constant diet of perversion. They don’t need to see headlines on the local paper about child porn (2 days ago). They are just trying to find out what sex is about in the first place, it doesn’t need to leap to perversion. Nudity doesn’t either. Get a new idea. On the flip side, I like clothes. I want to wear clothes. I don’t need to be publicly naked in any sense. I don’t want to break down any barriers for myself. I like it how it is. I also hope that all the Wayne Coyne admirer-performers could try and get a new idea. Instead of just following the copycat route. Let Wayne have this one. Get a new idea. 10/4/09 |
